8 Years Ago

8 years ago I lay in a hospital bed, overwhelmed by the new emotions of motherhood and the pain of a c-section. After spending almost 36 hours in labor and then turning to a c-section was more than exhausting.  But here I am 8 years later learning that motherhood is all of that! Amazing, exhausting, and never figured out. My little guy is sweet hearted, impulsive, and brilliant. He’s curious and asks tons of questions, and just when I’m frustrated with it he’ll say- “Mommy, weren’t you curious when you were little?” Yes, my darling- and I wouldn’t ask for you any other way. This little one brings me more worry than the others right now. I want him to be happy, to be kind, to be well mannered, to feel included, and to feel capable of being his true self. He continues to be girl crazy. His teacher is worried because he is caught up in who he will marry, but I have reassured her that this one came out that way. He has “chosen” his wife every year of his life! This year, it’s Addison- a sweet, smart, innocent girl (whose mom shares my profession). 

This year we had a sweet party to celebrate his birthday at the movie theater:

But his big day started with out elf, Mickey, decorating a chair and putting himself in cups to be held all day. Then we opened present and played games until church! 

We also had a great time celebrating Brooks for dinner at La Parilla- his choice so he could wear the hat! 

Happy Birthday Brooks Daniel! You made me a mom and continue to teach me- patience, the importance of modeling, and unconditional love ❤️
