On Wednesday, April 13, 2011 I finally decided enough was enough. My boobs had been sore for 7 days with no sign of Aunt Flow. I looked up pregnancy symptoms online and was surprised to find that I had about 5 of them! Still sure that I was not pregnant, I bought a test to confirm my assumptions. But, you guessed it.... TWO PINK LINES!!
I was shocked and excited to see the news. My stomach turned a few flips thinking about the idea of bringing a baby into the world. Unfortunately, I was going to have to keep it a secret for a few days! Tim was leaving the following morning for a bachelor party in Las Vegas. I didn't think it would be quite the send off to say, "We're having a baby, now go enjoy your guy time without being overwhelmed!"
So, I decided to keep it to myself until he returned Sunday evening. In the meantime, I took a few more tests (just to confirm the good news) and made plans for the big reveal Sunday night. I spent the weekend trying to avoid my in-laws because they would be curious about my lack of a cocktail.
How to spill the beans to my husband? Tim used our bulldog, Munson, to propose to me with the ring around his neck. So, it was only proper to have Munson share our announcement with Daddy. I made a bandana to go around Munson's neck that said "Proud Big Brother." When I brought Tim home from the airport Sunday night Munson was wearing the bandana.
He read the bandana out loud and then glanced my way with a confused look on his face. I responded, "We're having a baby." He exploded with joy! Hugs, laughs, tears, and astonishment followed. After the initial shock passed, Tim put a smile on my face with a simple comment:
"We've got this!"
