Sweet Baby Ramsey

This birth story will look entirely different considering I had a scheduled c-section, but I thought Ramsey still deserves to hear about the day he entered this world and stole our hearts!
Last belly pic :)
My c-section was scheduled for December 27, 2013 at 5PM.  That's right, I couldn't eat for the entire day!  We had a lazy morning, finished packing our bags, and took Brooks to my parents house.  We got him settled in and headed over to the hospital around 2:30.  It was almost surreal the way we checked in, walked back to pre-op, and knew it would only be a few short hours before our baby boy would be here.

Until... we got bumped back by someone who had to have an emergency c-section.  So we waited anxiously until it was our turn.  It was kind of eerie when they had me actually walk into the operating room myself.  I got up on the table and waited for the spinal block.  The room was freezing and my nerves were in full swing, so I could feel my body shaking.  The warm blankets and prayers with my loving husband helped make that feeling disappear.

The anesthesiologist was amazing and kept me very calm.  She talked about random things, but also kept me abreast of what was happening down below.  She let me know that baby would be arriving in the next 3 minutes, and she even offered to video tape!  Now we have an amazing video of our precious blessing coming into the world, and boy did he make an entrance!  That child cried before his body even came out!  He was screaming right away which made me feel so calm and excited.  It was a reassurance to me that everything was okay.  My doctor also held him above the curtain so I could get a glimpse of that long-awaited baby face.

I felt so good, it was weird!  Tim and I cooed over our new baby boy while they stitched me up.  This was in stark contrast to when Brooks was born and I couldn't even open my eyes.  Finally, they were finished with me and I got to hold Ramsey as they took us back to recovery.

In the next hour or so, the nurse in recovery felt like Ramsey's breathing needed assistance because he had a little grunt.  They hooked him up to check his oxygen and he was between 99-100%.  I wasn't worried until they started threatening to take him to the NICU, which I would have refused.  They brought down the NICU doctors who confirmed that he was getting all the oxygen he needed and we could just monitor him.  FINALLY, they took us up to our own room and our family got to come in and meet the little guy!

Unfortunately for me, the anesthesia left me itching, so they gave me some Benadryl, which in turn knocked me out and made me sick!  I spent a few not so fun hours that night before I got to feeling like myself.  Within that time Ramsey's grunt also stopped and he was able to stay in the room with us.

Now, here I am 1 week later- on Ramsey's due date with the most calm baby I've ever seen.  He's been such a good eater and sleeper, Tim and I know this is just the calm before the storm ;)

Thank you God for this sweet miracle, my husband for all his support (and I've needed a lot between the 2 year old and my c-section pain), and our parents for all their help.  I feel so blessed to have all of you in our lives!
